Carnation Famous Pumpkin Pie Recipe
Carnation evaporated milk is a key ingredient in making the pumpkin pie filling for this recipe. You can use a pre-made pie crust dough or you use your own pie crust recipe. If you are trying to make a pie for the first time, it might be a good idea to use a pre-made pie crust with this classic recipe.
Ingredients for Carnation Pumpkin Pie Recipe
If you are wanting to make this dessert, make sure you gather all your ingredients. Here is what you are going to need:
Pumpkin puree
Evaporated milk
Brown Sugar
Eggs
All purpose flour
Ground cinnamon
Ground ginger
Salt
Ground nutmeg
Ground cloves
Whipped cream (for topping when serving)
Now that you have all your ingredients gathered, let’s make some delicious pumpkin pie!
Famous Pumpkin Pie Recipe Instructions
Preheat your oven temperature to 350° F. Whisk together in a large bowl until smooth:
1 3/4 cups Pumpkin Puree (We like Libby’s pumpkin puree)
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tbsp all purpose flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp salt
Slowly whisk into the pumpkin mixture until smooth:
1 can evaporated milk
Place your uncooked pie crust into a 9″ pie pan. Pour the evaporated milk pumpkin mixture into the pie crust. Bake at 350°F for 60-70 minutes in the bottom third of the oven. You will know your pie is set when a butter knife inserted in the center of the pie comes out clean. Carefully remove the pie from the oven, and place the pie on a rack to cool completely. Serve topped with whipped cream and make sure you refrigerate the pie until it’s time to serve.
Pro tip: Sometimes the edges of the crust can get over done before the rest of the pie. Cover the edge of your crust with a pie shield to keep it from getting overdone.
Why Use Evaporated Milk in Pumpkin Pie Instead of Sweetened Condensed Milk
Making pumpkin pie with evaporated milk instead of sweetened condensed milk will give your pumpkin pie a lighter, airier pie that most people like after a large Thanksgiving dinner. Using condensed milk will cause the pie to be a bit denser.
Can You Use Pumpkin Pie Spice Instead of Individual Spices
If you prefer the pumpkin spice flavor from pumpkin pie spice instead of using individual spices, you can just add up the total amount of spices used and replace with pumpkin pie spice. So for this recipe you would need 2 1/4 tsp pumpkin spice.
