We had a GLORIOUS weekend. I hope you didn’t miss us too much. Paula and I were enjoying having a lot of our family here in town and the days just got away from us and we kind of let them.
My little 8 year old beauty was baptized this weekend. We enjoyed every minute of her special day and very much appreciate all who came to celebrate with her and us.
Isn’t she beautiful?!
She was baptized by her good looking Dad.
Paula made this gorgeous cake for her special day. She was pretty thrilled with all the attention. My Mom made the dress in the top 2 pictures. She was baptized in it and I just love all the detail my mom always puts into these keepsakes for the girls. She’s made all their blessing gowns and the dresses they were baptized in. Lucky girls for sure.
So, that is what we were doing that took up most of the weekend. Most of us watched with sad eyes as the 49ers lost the game on Sunday but we enjoyed spending time together.
I found a little time to craft this morning and finally finish a project I’ve had all the pieces to sitting here waiting for me to stay on task.
I’ve had a little block of wood, scrap of chevron fabric and a whole bunch of red buttons sitting around for a while now and put them all together to make this cute little piece to sit up on the mantle (since all the pieces for the giveaway weren’t sitting up there making it look cute any more).
I started out with this silly little piece of wood I found at the DI for like $0.15. You can use any piece of wood in any size for this project, this is just the piece I had on hand.
I laid it on a piece of wax paper and painted all the sides. I knew I was covering it all up so it didn’t need to be perfect just enough to make sure the image from the block wasn’t going to show through the white on the chevron. If you’re using an unpainted piece of wood you can skip this step.
Once it was all dry I grabbed my piece of chevron and started wrapping it around the wood. This is a thicker piece of fabric, like a duck cloth or canvas type so it covered it nicely. I figured out how I wanted the fabric to look on the front of the wood and then pulled it tight and stapled the ends down.
After I had the 1st sides stapled down I did the same thing with the other 2 sides making sure to make the corners look nice and clean and making sure it was all pulled tight but not out of shape.
I am going to grab a piece of black felt and glue it to the back to cover up all the staples and stuff but for now you can’t see it and I’m OK with it.
I used an empty cereal box and cut myself a heart template and then very lightly traced the shape onto the chevron with a pencil.
Then I grabbed my pile of red buttons and started laying them out. I knew I was going to need layers of the buttons to make sure all the open spaces were covered and to really fill in the outline of the heart shape. I laid out the bottom layer before I started gluing to make sure I was liking how it would all go together and luckily it worked.
Keep the glue gun hot and just keep adding buttons until it’s as full as you’d like it to be.
Aside from waiting for the paint to dry it took next to no time at all. I love the way it looks and now I have all sorts of plans for crafts with buttons. I am loving the layers of buttons. They’re so cute!
And now that I’ve got the walls all painted it is probably time to once again tackle that mantle. Poor thing could really use a new coat of paint.
Did you have a wonderful weekend?
Did you do anything fun?
Did you watch the super bowl or do something else?
I’ve got a few more Valentine crafts to share with you this week that I finished up this weekend and I’m HOPING I can get some good pictures of the walls since I finally got everything painted. I am pretty much in love with the color of my walls now!

What a cute project! Thank you for sharing it.
P.S. I watched super bowl for the first time in my life while making Valenine’s day cards.
Anya, I’m glad you enjoyed it. It was so easy but turned out cute so I’m happy.
Were you helping kids with cards and mass producing or getting to do a bunch of different ones? I’m thinking we’ll probably tackle classroom cards this weekend.
Also, did you enjoy the game? I wasn’t at all happy with the end result but I’m glad it wasn’t a blow out one way or the other.
