My husband spent time when he was young in Germany where his dad was stationed. While his family was there, they picked up a tradition of celebrating St. Nicholas Day. After Josh and I were married, we decided to carry on this tradition with our kids.
St. Nicholas Day falls on December 6th (H’s birthday!), so on December 5th children put their shoes by the fireplace, window or on the porch (in hopes that they have been good enough for Santa to bring them a treat). I know the official tradition varies by country/culture, so don’t hold me to anything. 🙂 Santa carries a book of the children’s deeds and if the children have been good, he will leave them a treat. Our boys love setting their shoes out by the fireplace and trying to guess what Santa will bring them this time. It’s a simple tradition that I hope my kids will share with their families when they are older.
