I love watching college football. My husband played football all the way through college, so you would think he’d be the big fan…but nope. I am! I think college football games are so fun to watch and even if you don’t have a specific team you cheer for, it’s always a blast to go to a kick off party or tailgater!
One thing your football party can’t be without is Coca-Cola and Diet Coke! They are definitely a staple here in our house. In fact, I actually collect Coca-Cola items! I have plates, glasses, mugs, pictures, wall hangings, wagons…pretty much everything. I love the nostalgic feel of Coke stuff! For our Coca-Cola needs we head over to Sam’s Club. They carry Coke and Diet Coke in a 28 pack which is perfect for our football gatherings! They can be found at the back of the club near the other sodas and juices or on display by the frozen food aisles.
Sam’s Club also has the option to order online and pick up in the club. So you can just hop on your computer, pick out what you need, and it’s waiting there for you with no running up and down the aisles!
Here we have an awesome shop that you can get delicious Coca-Cola drinks from, Dirty Diet Coke, anyone?! They also carry super delicious cookies with soda flavored frostings. I thought it would yummy to make a football shaped sugar cookie with Coca-Cola icing! I think they look really cute and are perfect for a tailgater, kick off party, BBQ, etc.
So whip up your favorite sugar cookie recipe, using a football shaped cookie cutter and use this recipe for the icing!
Coca-Cola Icing
4 cups powdered sugar
1/8 cup Coca-Cola (open and let go a little flat)
1/2 teaspoon cola flavoring
A couple drops of brown food coloring, if desired
Mix all your ingredients together until smooth. The icing will be smooth, but not runny. If you make a line in the icing with your finger, it should take about 3-5 seconds for the line to fill.
Now the next part is actually really easy! Make sure your cookies are well cooled and carefully dip them in the icing. You can use a small off set spatula or the straight edge of a butter knife to gently push off any excess icing. Set on a cooling rack to firm.
Now follow these next steps to get your cookies to look like cute, little footballs!
- Start on one end and using a small, writing tip and white frosting make a curved line.
2. Make another curved line on the other end.
3. Make a stripe across the top.
4. Make four lines going through your top line.
Tada! You just made a football cookies! Easier than you thought, right?!
