Hey friends!!!! Paula, Angela, and I are so incredibly excited to be over on The Wood Connection Blog, we’ve been fans forever and it’s a dream come true to be working with them. I’m Jenn and Halloween is my favorite (I may say that again at Thanksgiving and Christmas…I kind of love holidays). I’m so happy to be here today sharing these Spooky Halloween Friends with you.
Supplies needed:
Halloween Character Trio
Wood Glue
Black, White, Green
Silver, Ivory Paint
Printed Paper
Variety of embellishments
The Wood Connection has everything you need to make this project your own. They’ve got so many embellishments to choose from – papers, lace, ribbons, jewels, etc.
We thought it would be fun to show you how easy it is to take this Halloween Character Trio and make it your own.
We each started with the set and our paints and got to work. With only paint you can see differences already starting to take place.
A quick run down of what we did with paint.
Jenn:
Witch – hat, dress, boots painted black
Legs painted white, face painted ivory.
Eyes black dots (used end of paint brush).
Mummy – painted white
Frankenstein – head painted green (I created my own green by
mixing a lighter green with black), hair and body painted black.
I free handed the hair and scars and mouth.
Bolts are painted silver.
Paula:
Witch – hat, dress, boots painted black
legs and face painted a flesh color.
Eyes painted black with end of paint brush
Mummy – painted white
Frankenstein – straight black hair, black eyes, black body
Face painted green, bolts painted silver.
Angela:
Witch – hat, dress, boots, legs painted black
face painted green
Ghost – painted white (but just wait, it changes)
Frankenstein – hair, eyes, body painted black
face painted green (she also made her own green)
bolts painted silver.
So, a lot of similarities but I promise they are so different in the end. Are you ready to see?
Lets start with my darling little witch.
Isn’t she so so cute. She’s wearing a green dress with black spiderwebs (I used wood glue to attach the paper), she’s got a black tulle cape (I used hot glue to attach it at the front and back and gathered it around) with a gold ribbon tie. Her hat is orange with black polka dots with ric-rak trim. I used an old spider earring that no longer has a match to give her hat a little something extra. Her socks are white and orange striped paper. Her hair is a green raffia and I used a q-tip with a bit of blush on it to give her cheeks a bit of pink.
My Mummy is so incredibly simple but might be my very favorite. I painted him white and then using a sterile pad
from our first aid kit torn into strips and stretched out I wrapped him up. The sterile pad stuck to the wood with no problem which allowed me to move it around as I wanted before I used glue to secure it to the back.
Frankenstein after he was painted didn’t get much more work done to him.
I had a distressed black paper that I used as his suit and then sanded the edges and distressed them a little bit with a distressing ink pad. As I mentioned above I changed my mind about giving Frank a mouth, I opted instead to just give him a couple scars.
Now for the next set – Paula’s
Paula likes to claim to be crafty-impaired, I don’t believe her. Her Frankenstein is all painted with a purple tulle bow tie. Her Mummy is painted white and then glittered with a crystal sparkle glitter and she gave her Mummy black eyes. Her Witch is wearing a black dress with black shoes, and a cute black hat with a little bat. She’s got cute red lips and a purple tulle cape. Paula used a brown bag crumbled up and then cut to give her Witch hair. When she had them all finished she said they looked like they were going to Halloween Prom, so cute!
Angela’s set is up next.
Angela’s Frankenstein is wearing a plaid suit made out of paper applied with wood glue, she painted him an orange shirt under his suit. Her Mummy started out painted white but when she decided to go a different route she repainted it a light ivory. She then cut ivory cardstock into strips and distressed the edges and then strategically placed them on the Mummy, when she had them where she wanted them she used wood glue to attach them, her Mummy turned out so perfectly, I love it. Her Witch has a cute little broom, a polka dot dress and a purple glitter hat with a black wooden star with orange hair and a Halloween stripe tie with her Halloween cape.
I think these all turned out so cute and love how they show our different styles. We were all a bit excited to get them set up on our houses it may have caused a bit of an uproar around here when it was mid-September and I was pulling out my Halloween decorations.
We hope we’ve inspired you to get some friends together and craft. It’s so easy to take the same project and using what you find in the store or even around your own home make it all your own.
We love how these turned out so much we’re excited to give you the opportunity to make a set of your own. We’re giving away a $25 gift card to The Wood Connection head over to The Housewives of Riverton Instagram to enter. It’s super easy to enter and it’s the best time of the year to visit The Wood Connection.
