Every year when the 4th of July rolls around I always wish I had more 4th of July decorations. When I see things at the store I just don’t see quite what I want either the colors are too bright or it’s just not what I’m looking for. I had an idea in my head and it turned out just how I wanted!

Supplies you will need:
2×4 (three- 3 inch blocks)
red white and blue craft paint
wood dowel
3 wood stars
ribbon
mod podge
drill
sponge paint brush
I had my husband cut out 3 wood stars. I realize not everyone is able to do this. At the Wood Connection here you can find the wooden stars for really inexpensive. If you do not live near the store they also ship. You will need to cut your 2 x 4 into 3 inch blocks and then sand them until they are smooth.

Home depot and Lowe’s will cut your 2×4 and dowels for free or may charge you a very small fee depending on how many cuts you have. Then you will drill a hole in the middle of your block and in the bottom of your star so the star will fit into the dowel . You want it to fit snug.
Now it’s time to paint ! I painted my white block with black paint first and then painted white over the black then I sanded it so the black would show through the white. I also like to sand my edges to give it the distressed look.
Next you will trace your star onto your scrapbook paper and then mod podge it onto the wood. I love to use glitter so I decided to use glitter for the red star. To do this you will paint mod podge onto the star. (I like to use the foam brushes for this).
Next you will pour out some glitter onto a sheet of paper then just dip your star into the glitter and shake off any extra. After you will want to spray the star with a sealer so the glitter doesn’t come off. You will definitely want to do this outside because this sealer is VERY strong!
Now you are ready to tie your ribbon around your dowel. I used a fun sparkly red tulle. I love tulle and I’m pretty sure I own every color they make. There are so many fun things you can do with it!
I love how these stars turned out they are just what I wanted. I have them sitting in my kitchen window sill and they look so cute! This was a fun project to do and really doesn’t take a lot of time once you have all of your supplies ready to go!
