If you’ve been on pinterest at all I don’t know that you could have avoided seeing all the cute things you can do with a cookie sheet these days. I thought I had seen this idea already but apparently I just dreamed it up (or it is unsearchable) because I looked everywhere for it and couldn’t find a cookie sheet turned into what I did here.
Last Sunday we had the most wonderful sacrament meeting that was completely focused on Family Home Evening (a scheduled night once a week {typically Monday} that is focused on spending time as a family typically with a lesson, spiritual message, song, prayer, game/activity and of course refreshments). It was a sacrament meeting that was 100% I believe given for the sake of our family. We, being a family of 9, have a pretty busy schedule. Right now our Monday nights include dance and school and almost every other night of the week has set plans as well. Every other night except Tuesday night.
When we walked out of sacrament I said to Nate “I guess FHE will be Tuesday nights for now?” and he said “looks like”.
As the day went on this idea continued to grow in my head and so on Monday when the kids were off school I gathered my supplies (who knew finding the larger popsicle/craft sticks would be such an issue).
Dollar Store metal cookie sheet, Mod Podge, craft/popsicle sticks jumbo size, scrapbook paper, paint brush of some sort and I also have in that bag that you can’t see well my distressing ink pad.
I failed miserably at taking pictures of the process (mainly because I wasn’t sure if it was going to turn out or not) but it’s pretty easy so I will just tell you what I did.
1. Cut your paper to fit in your cookie sheet. I had to use pieces of 2 12×12 papers and then cut the black to cover the seam.
2. Mod Podge your cookie sheet and lay your paper down.
3. Mod Podge over the top of your paper.
4. While that is drying cut your coordinating papers to fit on your popsicle sticks.
5. Mod Podge paper onto the sticks and then Mod Podge over the top of it.
6. Put a 2nd coat of Mod Podge over the top of everything.
7. I used my cricut to cut out the Family Home Evening letters. I’ll be honest the top/title part did not turn out at all like I wanted. I am already working on re-doing that part (and am hoping that if I post that here I’ll get it done sooner than later). I bought some chipboard to give it a little dimension and I think I am going to get some vinyl and cut that and make the letters a little bigger. I love the font but it feels too small.
Anyway, if you’re cool with how mine is I used the font on the calendar cartridge and it is cut at I believe 1″. I used Mod Podge to stick it on and then of course Mod Podged over the top.
8. Once everything was dry I used the same coordinating papers and the flat bottom marble things I have and fit them to the bottom of the marbles. Since they aren’t going to be moved or handled I just used a hot glue gun to stick the paper on and to attach them to the cookie sheet.
9. I used hot glue to attach magnets to the back of the popsicle sticks and of course used my distressing ink on the sides and front edges of my popsicle sticks (I think that is also what’s missing from around the title area so I’ll be doing that on the chipboard piece when I get it done – you have to distress before you mod podge, that should probably be up there ^ somewhere).
Our plan is to keep the extra name sticks in the jar behind the *board* and whoever has each thing {song, prayer, lesson} will draw the person for next week. This way everyone knows for an entire week what their assignment will be and has time to prepare. So far everyone is excited, on board and committed to being home Tuesday evenings from 6-8, we’ll start our evening with dinner and then move into family night.
Wish us luck would you?

Thanks Melissa. I’d love to see yours when you get it done.
I love this idea, a quick question though, Do you have to distress the popsicle sticks? I do like how they look though. I am think about making this for my family.
Thanks so much for stopping by. You do not have to distress the popsicle sticks, I just wanted to make sure I mentioned that if you choose to you need to do that before you do the top coat of mod podge or it won’t absorb into the wood.
