I’m so excited to share more of my basket makeovers with you today. This past week I participated in Studio 5’s *Spray Off* and once again had a blast.
Brooke as always was a fabulous host, she does a great job making us all look good!
Before I get to the makeovers I have to tell you about my outfit!
I was so excited to be dressed by KendallJane Boutique for my segment. I love how the whole outfit came together. I’m not sure which piece is my favorite, I absolutely love both of the tops, but the skinny jeans….1st they have a zipper at the ankle!!!!, 2nd they’re the most fabulously stretchy pants….for not being leggings they’re just as comfortable. You should definitely go check them out and because they’re so awesome they’re offering all of our readers 10% off their entire purchase, just enter HOUSEWIVES10 at the checkout, the discount expires on 10/4/14 so don’t wait! I promise you’ll love everything.
Now…onto my baskets!
Here is my clip from Studio 5:
Here is a little more info on each of the baskets I featured on Studio 5.
I found this little silverware basket at the DI. It was a light wicker color and nothing very exciting. This was a quick makeover, I sprayed the whole thing with Kilz Interior Oil-Based Primer and followed it up with a coat of Krylon Classic White. I wanted this basket to be able to match any party decor or to be able to be pulled out at a bbq and not worry about it not matching. What I love about how it turned out is how easy it is to dress it up. A little ribbon or a bow adds a fun touch but it isn’t required, as you can see even the colors of the plates and cups tie everything together nicely.
The next two baskets were painted pretty much the same way. Both were primered and painted white just like the silverware basket. Once they were dry I used painters tape and taped off the lines I wanted to stay white. With the spray paint (especially on the baskets) you want to be sure to tape off/cover everything you don’t want painted – because it will over-spray and get everywhere you don’t want it. I can’t stress enough, quick, light coats of paint. Because the baskets aren’t solid the tape doesn’t give you a solid line and if you spray too heavy of a coat the paint will drip down behind the tape. I also remove the tape as soon as I’m done spraying, if the paint dries stuck to the tape it sometimes peels the paint off the basket too, not a look you’re going to want.
I already shared my *C* basket last week, if you missed that post here it is.
Up last is the blue/white polka-dot basket. Because that one didn’t turn out perfectly I don’t really want to talk about it ๐ As I said in the video clip, if I was going to do that one again I wouldn’t try to spray paint the circles. If you figure out a way to have success with spray paint PLEASE come back and share it with me, until then I think I’ll just hand paint them or use vinyl circles!
Here I am with my whole Studio 5 set up (loved being outside).
I hope you’ll give this DIY a try, it worked so well for me, I know you’ll love seeing your baskets all fresh and new looking and this is the perfect way to match any/every decor.

Cute outfit & the baskets are too cha cha for words!
Thanks so much Meghan. I love the outfit (of course) and the baskets were so fun to do! Thanks for stopping by today ๐
Where do you buy Kilz primer? I went to Michael’s and Hobby Lobby today and neither store had it.
Tammy, I have always found Kilz Interior Oil Based primer at wal-mart, it is probably about .50 cheaper there than home depot and lowes but both of those places carry it too. Hope you find it. Thanks for stopping by our blog! ~Jenn
