DIY Upcycled Baskets

I’m so excited to share more of my basket makeovers with you today.  This past week I participated in Studio 5’s *Spray Off* and once again had a blast.

Brooke as always was a fabulous host, she does a great job making us all look good!

Before I get to the makeovers I have to tell you about my outfit!

Here is a little more info on each of the baskets I featured on Studio 5.

I found this little silverware basket at the DI.  It was a light wicker color and nothing very exciting.  This was a quick makeover, I sprayed the whole thing with  Kilz Interior Oil-Based Primer and followed it up with a coat of Krylon Classic White.  I wanted this basket to be able to match any party decor or to be able to be pulled out at a bbq and not worry about it not matching.  What I love about how it turned out is how easy it is to dress it up.  A little ribbon or a bow adds a fun touch but it isn’t required, as you can see even the colors of the plates and cups tie everything together nicely.

The next two baskets were painted pretty much the same way.  Both were primered and painted white just like the silverware basket.  Once they were dry I used painters tape and taped off the lines I wanted to stay white.  With the spray paint (especially on the baskets) you want to be sure to tape off/cover everything you don’t want painted – because it will over-spray and get everywhere you don’t want it.  I can’t stress enough, quick, light coats of paint.  Because the baskets aren’t solid the tape doesn’t give you a solid line and if you spray too heavy of a coat the paint will drip down behind the tape. I also remove the tape as soon as I’m done spraying, if the paint dries stuck to the tape it sometimes peels the paint off the basket too, not a look you’re going to want.
