Looking for an easy way to make your Valentine’s Day extra special? Create your own DIY Valentine Hot Cocoa Bar!
If you can count on teenagers to do one thing it’s waiting for the last minute to tell you they need something. My cute Anna had her Sweethearts Dance this past Saturday and as they were planning the day date (they were going sledding) they mentioned afterward going to the gas station for hot chocolate.
As you can imagine, if you’ve been here long at all, that was a bit of a blow to this mom who loves decorating and creating fun things like a Valentine hot cocoa bar.

Once I had buy-in from the teens I started collecting Valentine items from around the house to create a tablescape they’d be happy to see when they got here.
Supplies for your DIY Valentine Hot Cocoa Bar Decor!
As I mentioned, for the decor I collected things I had around my house. I’ll link things below that can be purchased if you want to create a similar look.
Buffalo Plaid Table Runner
White Tray (similar)
Red/White Felt Ball Garland (similar)
Berry Heart Wreath (similar)
Chalkboard (similar)
Gold Frame Mirror (similar)
Red Cake Stand (similar)
Wood Cake Stand (similar)
Along with the regular decor I used a collection of mugs we had here at the house and disposable cups with lids. We also decided to serve chocolate chip cookies with the hot cocoa, they were a hit! Nate’s chocolate chip cookie recipe is always a hit.
Valentine Hot Cocoa Bar flavors and mix-ins
We had a variety of different flavors of Hot Cocoa as a starter and then a collection of mix-ins and toppings. Here is everything we had on hand.
Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa
Stephens Mint Truffle Hot Cocoa
Stephens Candy Cane Hot Cocoa
Stephens Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa
Junior Mints
Caramel Filled Hershey Kisses
Lava Cake Hershey Kisses
Reeses Peanut Butter Hearts
Mini Marshmallows
Valentine Sprinkles
Dark Chocolate Shavings
(I just took my favorite Dark Chocolate bar and used a cheese grater to get the shavings)
French Vanilla Creamer
Reddi Wip
The only thing I didn’t mention was boiling water. You may choose to use heated milk but for so many people we opted for boiling water for our Valentine hot cocoa bar.
Start by adding your choice of hot cocoa mix to the bottom of your cup and then add in whichever mix-ins you want before adding the water. Mix well, then add your choice of toppings to the finished cup.
It turned out so fun. And such an easy thing to put together. The kids have already asked if we could do it again Valentine’s morning…and every other holiday for the rest of the year.
We’d love to hear what toppings/mix-ins you’d add to your Valentine hot cocoa bar.
