Every year I love to make new Christmas decorations for my home and friends. I was at the Dollar Store and came across these glitter reindeer and couldn’t resist them. I then starting thinking about what I could do with them. This year I can’t get enough of the gold and glitter.
Because I have so many frames and fabric that I have collected I decided to combine them all. I can’t decide which is my favorite.
The reindeer were a steal, the red ones came in a pack of 5 and the larger gold ones were 2 for $1. Supplies you would need are the reindeer or similar flat Christmas decoration, fabric, old frames with the glass or art canvas. Hobby Lobby has the 8×10 canvas 2 for $4 pack.
There are 2 different ways that I did this project.
For the first one I used fabric and canvas.
Cut a piece of fabric 2 1/2″ larger than each side of the canvas. For instant since my canvas piece is 8×10 I cut my fabric 13×15. This will give you enough fabric to wrap around and secure on the back.
Next, wrap the fabric one side at a time and secure with a staple gun. It works best to do the sides across from each other so you can pull the fabric to make it tight. The pattern fabric is a little harder because you need to line up the print checking it from the front to make sure it isn’t crooked.
After you have 2 sides done you need to miter the fabric before you wrap the other 2 sides. If you don’t the fabric will be bulky on the sides.
Next glue the reindeer on. I used small sticky dots that you use in scrap booking so it pops out a little but you could just hot glue it too.
So simple, cheap and cute. The possibilities are endless. After seeing this one done I’m tempted to add a red nose to make him into Rudolph.
This frame is bigger than you think because the gold decoration is 10×10. I love the gold polka dot fabric. This one is done by wrapping the fabric around the glass and just duct taping it to the back.
Originally I was going to paint the frame but decided the gold looked great.
This frame is done the same way as the large frame. I think the chevron fabric resembles mountains and the red really pops next to it.
Just have fun creating!! Hopefully these will give you a few ideas to decorate your home this Holiday season.
