Halloween Wreath - 1st Halloween decoration to go up this year

To gear up for my 24 hour craft day I sat up Thursday night and completed my 1st new decoration for the year.

During my blog hopping I came across the CUTEST wreath I’ve seen.

One of the things I have to admit that drew me to this was the fact that aside from the feathers I had everything to do it (thanks to patchwork skirts made for the girls for Halloween a couple years ago). While Mia was at dance I ran and got my feathers and then with the help of a couple episodes of Criminal Minds I got all my flowers done and put it together.

Edit….after posting this picture I decided that the *C* needed a little something extra and I added a little more poof to the tulle bow. Here she is really REALLY finished 🙂

Like I said, Jenni shows how she made her wreath but I’ll give you a quick pictureless tutorial on how I did mine.

1st I found a wreath (yay for having one laying around but you can get them super cheap pretty much anywhere) and then I gathered my fabric scraps. A couple years ago I made the girls really cute patchwork skirts for Halloween so I used what I had left from that.

While sitting and watching a couple episodes of Criminal Minds I made my flowers. I could try to show you how I do it but there is already a great photo tutorial here SO I’ll just link to it instead. Once I got a good 35-40 flowers done (can’t remember exactly but it wasn’t to awful) I started laying them out. That took a while to decide on exactly what I wanted since I didn’t have equal numbers of each pattern but in the end it worked.

Once I had a smallish section laid out I would glue them down with my handy dandy glue gun (OH this is where I should also admit that since I had no intention of anyone wearing these flowers or of having to wash them I didn’t sew them – I just tacked them with glue as I was forming them). I worked my way around until I had used up the majority of my flowers and had them laid out in a way I liked.

I only used 4 feathers for the black accent behind. On the outside I used 2 1/2 feathers and used the other 1 1/2 on the inside. It worked well and saved me money.

Lastly I did my letter C. I painted the whole thing an orange that closely matched my paper and then used mod podge to stick the paper down. I sanded the edges and then ran some stain over the whole thing and thought I was happy with it (happy enough that I took the picture and posted it on the blog). As I got looking at it I decided I needed a little more black to it to bring in the colors of the flowers so I inked the edges with my black stamp pad and then mod podged the whole thing to protect the paper. I also added a few cute little jewels.

Then, I tied the C on with some scrap tulle I had on hand and that is the end!
