I should start this post by letting you know that when we bought this house it had new carpet, it’s been nearly 5 years and since I am pretty sure it was the worlds cheapest carpet and we have 7 kids it is awful (we have new carpet plans just need to get it done).
There is this stain (well, many but this one was awful) in my front room. I have no idea what it is, no real idea how long it’s been there. I hadn’t tried to clean it because we were really thinking we’d do wood in the front room but sadly the entryway flooring we have won’t click into the new stuff we wanted (dang companies changing their product).
So after having our crafting day this weekend and cleaning up the stain was staring at me and making me grumpy.
See this thing…wouldn’t it make you grumpy too?

Did this today. Spilled red wine on my brand new beige carpet last night. This tip worked better than my steam cleaner. I did make one modification; instead of blotting it with a cloth at the end I went over the stain with a white towel and hot iron (spilled the entire glass!!). Stain had even set over night. So glad I found this!
I LOVE replies like this. I am so happy it worked for you. I’m going to remember the iron trick. I have a bad spot in my daughter’s room that I need to take care of. Have a great day!!!
I have a question. I have seen this remedy in a couple of different blogs and everyone says to use a white cloth/towel. If you use something with color will that color rub off on the carpet? Is that why it needs to be white? I’m sorry if I sound dumb, just curious.
I can’t say for sure because I haven’t tried with a colored towel/cloth but I think part of the reason for using white is so you can see what is coming up and when nothing is coming up any more? I would guess if the cloth has been washed and doesn’t bleed when you wash it it would be safe but I can’t say for sure. If you use a colored cloth will you let us know what happens? Thanks!
Well I finally got around to it, and no it didn’t bleed. 🙂 (yay!) And now my ugly carpet stain is finally gone! Thanks for this!
I am so glad to hear it worked for you and got the stain out! Thanks for letting me know about the colored towel too. Have a great rest of your weekend!
really cool used it today on small dirt or oil spot they look better only now carpet looks a little whiter in that spot but much better I used clear dishwashing gel/… lol
I made one alteration, I used blue dawn worked great blue dawn mixed with hydrogen peroxide and baking soda works too. So if vinegar doesn’t work try peroxide. One of these two has always worked for me!

Wouldn’t peroxide bleach brown carpet I know this sounds dumb I’d heard it would just woundering
I would definitely test an area that wouldn’t be noticeable. I didn’t have any problems with discoloration, just finally a spot free carpet!
I dont have white vinegar…. Do you think apple cider vinegar is ok?
it’s cheap (less than a dollar). Go buy some.
Has anyone tried this on pet stains? I live in apartments and my dogs have made a mess on this cheap carpet. Ive tried every over the counter products and nothing works.
It really works on carpets. I just tried it on my apartment carpet and it eliminated pet urine and tough stains. Instead I used oxy dish detergent and it worked great. Thanks for this recommendation.
I for sure know that baking soda removes odours, but I didn’t know it also quite well removes stains. I will try this method next time I have a spillage on the carpet.

This is a fantastic article about looking after for you home in the wintertime. People usually keep their houses more air limited during the cold temperature and cleaning your rug is a fantastic way to aid the air quality. carpet care
I must tell you the blog post is really good..
Commercial Carpet Cleaning Services In Texas
Any truly professional carpet cleaning service knows not to use baking soda on a carpet because of its high pH (approx. 12). Maximum allowable pH for carpet is 10 (because pH is a logarithmic scale, a 12 pH is 100 times stronger than a 10 pH). In order to not damage the stain resistant properties of the carpet (pH higher than 10 will also void the carpet’s warranty, so yes, this is an important factor).
So I used blue dish soap warm water apple cider vinegar and baking soda. The spot is a little whiter than the rest 9 the carpet. Is this bad? I hope not….
That’s incredible! There isn’t any trace of the stain left. I hope that treatment worked for the rest of spots in your carpet. Just don’t overdo the mixture, so it wouldn’t harm the carpet’s fibers itself. Thanks for sharing!
