I’m so excited to share this Christmas tree decoration. I had so much fun making it and I love the way it turned out. I am using way more gold than I have ever used in decorating in the past. I feel like I might want to keep this one up after Christmas.
If you would like to see how to make the reindeer decoration in this picture go here.
This tree is made out of a poster board, ribbon, lace, and paper.
Supplies needed:
White poster board
Duct Tape
Glue gun
Duct Tape
Glue gun
WIRE ribbon (works best)
doilies
coffee filters
strand of plastic pearls
gemstone 3D stickers
Shelf liner (found at dollar store)
To start I made a paper cone out of poster board. I didn’t get a picture of the cone I made unfortunately but the core of the tree is made by rolling your poster board and taping it to the size of tree you want to make. After you roll it into a cone trim the bottom to stand up flat. Then trace the bottom and cut out the circle to tape to the bottom of the cone. This just makes it more stable. You can buy the Styrofoam cones but you can’t hot glue to Styrofoam…. it will melt and a they are $4-$6 where a poster board is .50 so much cheaper.
It is best to start at the bottom of the cone with your first ribbon. The wider the ribbon the better and it works best if you use wire ribbon so you can fold it like an acordian. Hot glue this layer on. Low heat glue gun is best because your fingers touch the glue once in a while.
For the next layer I used shelf liner that I found at the Dollar Store. Cut stripes about 2″ and fold and glue as you go around. The liner is plastic but you can manipulate it pretty easy. Again, low heat glue is best so it won’t melt.
The coffee filter is simple, cut out the center and glue. Same with the doilies.
Keep going around until your at the top. I did put a star at the top but it doesn’t show in the picture.
Embellish with the gem stickers and pearls and I also had some old earrings that matched perfect.
The tree looks great on its own but candles, or candle holders make a great base to finish the tree.
This project does take a little more time but I found after I made one the others were a little easier. This tree stands 16″ tall without the base and is pretty slender. That’s what is great about it you can make it any shape.
Next I want to try one all gold glitter!
