Did you ever want to do something and in your head you imagine how it is going to turn out and then when you get it done it didn’t at all turn out like you expected?
I have.
I am so incredibly happy to report that this is NOT one of those times. With the help of wonderful friends and family this time my dream turned out exactly how I imagined…better even than I could have hoped.
Since long before this little princess was born I knew what I wanted in her bedroom – black, white, pink, damask. That was my starting point. For well over a year now I have been collecting things for her room. Things I thought might work, things I hoped would work, ideas from this wonderful thing we call the Internet and even more specifically the wonderful newest fun pinterest.
OK, I could go on and on because I love her room so much but instead I am just going to jump right into the pictures. If you have any questions about anything I did please don’t hesitate to ask, a lot of her room is DIY so for a while I will continue to post about little things I did in her room but if you want to know anything now ask away!
I think we should start with a picture of what you see right as you’re walking into her room:
Cute little mirror and hooks on the small wall right as you walk in but the real focal point I think (aside from that darling princess enjoying her new room) is the crib and the decorations above it.
I love how this ended up turning out. The paper flowers I made from this tutorial and the paper lanterns Paula picked up one day coming up on a year ago now while she was at the store. She saw them on clearance for $4 for the set of 3 and knew they would find a home in her room.
Her blanket was given to me at my baby shower a year ago. My friends knew exactly what I wanted (because I was in the process of trying to get everything to make it myself when they gifted me with the completed product) and it turned out perfect. The bedding was a gift when she was born and the curtain I found a while back on Zuily. It is actually a shower curtain (shhh) but it was the exact pattern I wanted to match her room so I ordered it and it’s perfect. The white blanket hanging over the back of her crib was another gift from Nate’s boss before she was born and it was also used on her blessing day. The little outlet cover that you can kind of see will get it’s own post one day soon but I did that and I love it!
Working our way around the room to the left, you see her window (totally not centered on the wall) and the girls’ bow holder (tutorial here) that I made last spring. The cute little bunny sitting on her nightstand I made her for Easter and the lamp can actually be seen (kind of) in it’s original state here. The lamp was pure luck that it turned out because it is a completely made up DIY that I’ll share in the near future.
The adorable little panda backpack that matches so perfectly is from Gymboree quite a few years ago. I use to have 3 of them from the older girls but recently during the purging project we downsized and I just kept one to put in her room. The Little Princess sign was given to us at her baby shower from her Auntie Angela. I knew I wanted a picture of the temple in her room (all of the kids will have one but the rest of them are getting them for Christmas) and I was so happy when I found this site. They have so many beautiful pictures of temples and they’re free to download with or without the saying. The frame I already had as a gift and printing the picture 12×14 at Costco was only 2.99. It is exactly how I wanted it and the little shelf sitting below it I found at the DI for $2!
Continuing moving around. The mirror we had, we had once bought it to put in the bathroom but it wasn’t what we wanted in there so out it came. I am so glad we kept it because it goes perfectly above the dresser Nate found for an amazing deal. The nightstand alone is priced at $149 at the store and we were able to get both the dresser and nightstand for less than that. We’re still trying to figure out what exactly is scratched or dented because they’re in perfect condition – don’t worry I am not complaining I am happy that we were the ones to get the deal! My parents had these mug holders when I visited them this summer that my Mom was getting rid of – I don’t know why but when I saw them they looked exactly like what I would need to hang all of the little headbands off of and they worked exactly like I imagined. The little dessert stand/tray thing I found at the DI for $.50 and I love the way it looks on her dresser and it’s great to hold her little bows that don’t really work well on the bow holder. And of course more pictures of the Princess are on her dresser, there is no doubt what the real theme of her room is…right?
We are now completely turned around in the room and the window is at my back. In this picture you can see the door where you enter her room and the placement of her closet. This is a good place to point out that there are still a few projects left to do in her room, 1 of them being the trim. Currently her trim is stranded in Arkansas. We are hoping it will be here soon but since we’re getting it for free you will not hear us complaining about waiting for it. Another thing is what to do up above her closet doors…I have some ideas but I don’t think they’re perfect yet. If you have any ideas of what would go well up there please please please share them! I need all the help I can get.
Another picture of her gallery wall and changing table area (taken in the daylight without the flash so you can actually see the difference between the wall color and the white trim/doors/ceiling). I think right now I could stand in her room and look at this all day long.
Over the past year (actually more like year and a half now) as I’ve been shopping for stuff for her room and just looking and seeing what was out there in the pink/black/white theme, I have noticed the trend for all sorts of Paris type things popping up. It seems like it is everywhere – especially when shopping in those colors. I’ll admit it, for one half a second I was tempted but it wasn’t what I wanted. It would have been EASY since it was so readily available but in the end I just didn’t want that type of theme in her room (and it appears it was a good thing that I didn’t because I have been informed that my 8 year old niece saw her friend’s room that has the Paris theme and she is hooked – she 100% wants that in her bedroom).
I wanted the theme of her room to be her. My perfect little doll of a princess. I wanted a room that was fitting for an infant, a 1 year old, a 3 year old and hopefully with just a few changes even a 5 year old. Like every one of my children she is a gift to me, she is a part of me and she has made our family whole and complete. I wanted to showcase her personality in her bedroom and the best way I could think of to do that was to show off her and everything that she is. I said it before and I’ll say it again, I am excited that I took all these pictures of her, I am excited that I was able to catch so many candid moments that are so completely her and be able to use them in a way that really completes her room. I am glad that I was able to make her room so nice for her but at the same time keep it a place that she can play in and that she already loves to be in. It makes me really incredibly happy, making our kids happy does silly things to us moms doesn’t it?
So, just a little reminder of where we started a little less than a month ago.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little journey with me. Again, if you have any ideas of what should go above her closet doors PLEASE share them, I have seen a lot of darling things but I am not 100% sure I’ve seen exactly what I want yet. At the moment I am leaning toward something in vinyl…thankfully that hasn’t been over used in her room yet so I don’t think it would be too much but I am just not sure what. Also, if you have any questions (or know where I can get the perfect rug to go in front of her crib) let me know!

Turned out cute. Makes me want to finish The kids’ rooms, too bad I can’t get Dale to help me…some things I can’t do on my own.
Thanks Amy. Sorry you’re not getting help! I’ve only got every other room in the house to work on now!!
What a cute nursery! Love the color scheme 🙂
Love the pom poms in the corner! So fun!
I love it, so cute!
Can you come decorate Maddie and Max’s rooms?
Thank you everyone, it’s my favorite room in the whole house (obviously) right now. I told Nate we had to get another room done or I was never going to leave it!
April, you buy the plane ticket and you’re on!
The pink color is adorable. I love the baby bling holder made out of chicken wire. I’ve been wanting to make one too. Thanks for the inspiration.
I bet vinyl words or image(s) on the closet would be really neat and it would contrast with the soft pink color. Or maybe a wreath on the outer closet door might look nice too.
Super duper cute room! I love it!
What a beautiful room! I love all the details and the colours! Great job – and what a lucky little girl!
Thanks for linking to a Round Tuit!

Jenn, This is so darn cute. I’d love to see a pink round rug in the center of the room & maybe even black closet doors? It’s my pleasure to feature you in my Fab Friday Favorites. Thanks so much for linking up to my par-tay & please feel free to take an “I Was Featured” button if you’d like. And please do come back next Friday.

Wow! I love the colors in that room. The black and pink makes a room that is very feminine without overdoing it on the “Disney Princess” feel. And those lights… Very beautiful.
Over the closet doors would be the perfect place to stencil or script a cute saying or even just an I Love You 🙂
[…] when I finally finished Lila’s nursery I hung tissue paper pom poms above her crib. I loved the way they turned out and they actually […]
Stunning quest there. What occurre after? Take care!
