For the 2nd week of the Blog Wars the AMAZING and WONDERFUL Riley Blake sent us an amazing assortment of fabrics, ribbon, buttons…so much fun stuff.

I knew immediately I wanted to use everything they sent. I loved all the bright colors and it was like they KNEW my current obsession with polkadots and chevron and they were just feeding it. I will say, I was a bit stumped with what to do with the cassette tape fabric. I don’t even think my children know what a cassette tape is! But I loved the colors (especially the pink) so I knew I would use it, it was just a matter of how.
In an effort to obey the rules and not do anything that would give away which project was mine I knew I should avoid a peasant dress/top with ruffle bottoms so I went out in search of another style to try out. I came across the Ella Dress and fell in love with the top. I especially fell in love with the way the straps tied into a BIG bow in the back, SO sweet!
I used the top piece of the pattern and the straps and then kind of made up the skirt as I went (you cannot get a dress the style I did mine by following the pattern so if you buy the pattern and have any questions please feel free to email {or comment} and ask them). I decided on the grey as the bodice and then used the rest of the grey for a wide strip and used the cute green with white polkadot ric rak to dress it up. Then I used the florescent greenish yellow as the base for my cassette tape ruffles. I figured with them all gathered up it would be hard to tell what they were but I would still get the pops of color that I wanted. THEN I loved it so much I had to use it on the back of the straps too! I then just alternated the rest of the fabrics in strips to complete the skirt.
I am IN LOVE with how it turned out. I am so excited to make her some little bloomers to wear under it for the rest of the summer and even more excited to see how it will look with some ruffled pants and a cardigan for the fall & winter!!
I HIGHLY recommend the pattern, it came together so easily even though I wasn’t following it exactly, I can only imagine that doing it as they have laid out will be even simpler (don’t worry, I have plans to try it THIS WEEK!).
Project *one of a kind wardrobe* is going well for this summer!
