The Boy Room Dilemma…

Our boys are such good brothers to each other!  Their ages are 10, 4 1/2, and 2.  They really are such sweet boys and MOST of the time they get along well and play well together.  Currently, the 10 year old has his own room and the 4 1/2 and 2 year old share a room.  Our boys’ favorite thing to do is have “sleep overs”.  This almost always doesn’t include inviting anyone over, but just everyone camping out in the living room or everyone camping out together in one room.

6 nights out of 7 in a week, you can almost guarantee that the two older boys will end up in the same room, even if I have threatened them with grounding, toys being taken away, etc.  And honestly if the 2 year old could get out of his crib on his own…I’m sure he’d be snuggled in with them too!

Josh and I have often joked about having a “bunk room”, with three beds so all the boys could sleep in one room.  We are lucky that our house currently has 5 bedrooms with the option for 6, and thought we could still have one room for the two younger ones to have their toys and stuff in, and another room for our oldest to have a desk and his “things” because he’s 10 and he doesn’t have toys anymore. 🙂  So they would still have there own space (more important for the 10 year old than for the younger two) but we wouldn’t have the runaround every night of trying to keep people in their own rooms/beds.

While scrolling through Pinterest I came across all of these amazing options for bunk rooms.

I found this one at Modern Decorating Ideas.  I like the set up a lot.

This is from the HGTV 2012 Dream Home (of course, right!) and it would honestly be my very first choice!  I love that the “loft” could be made into a slightly larger than twin sized bed…seeing as my 10 year old is already 5’1!

Here is another great loft idea too!  I found this at The Enchanted Home, the loft would obviously have to be lowered to accommodate for lower ceilings in a basement room.

Here is another option of having one bed separate from the bunkbeds to accommodate for maybe a full size been instead of just a twin for the 10 year old.  This one came from DIY Home Pins.

 This is probably the simplest idea.  A twin over full bunkbed with a twin trundle.  It’s space saving, but also give our 10 year old a bigger bed.  And the stairs instead of a ladder have always been my favorite because they just feel a bit safer. 🙂  This bed comes from The Bunkbed King, and let me tell you, if you are looking for any type of bunkbed…check them out!  They have TONS of different designs, colors, sizes, etc.  One stop bunkbed shopping! 🙂

And lastly, I just love this one because it looks like fun. 🙂  It sort of reminds me of a tree house!  Not only does Elizabeth show you this great bunkbed set, but she even gives you a full on tutorial of how to make it on her blog!

“But Paula, where is your dilemma?”  While it may seem like my only dilemma is choosing which set of triple beds to choose, my real dilemma is figuring out if a bunk room is actually the right way to go.  Will my 10 year old decide 6 months after we finish the bunk room that he doesn’t want to sleep in the same room as his younger brothers anymore?  Will every night be a constant battle of “Go to SLEEP!!” and boys bouncing from one bed to the next?  Will we spend money on creating a bunk room that will go largely unused and be a complete failure?  Now you see my dilemma!
