This post is brought to you by one to many last minute trips to the grocery store to buy a box of crayons because NO ONE in the whole house had any idea where one might be. I remember at LEAST 3 times last year when my cute little 1st grader was trying to sit down and do his homework and there wasn’t a crayon or colored pencil to be found in the entire house, I think I lost my mind! (OK, I know I lost my mind…made me INSANE every single time.)
So, this year I decided to start off the year RIGHT. I got this idea one night about 2am when I was having a hard time shutting my brain off because there was so much I knew I needed to get done for school. I didn’t want to run to the store or put off getting homework done because we didn’t have the correct supplies.
I told Nate my plan and while I am sure he thinks I am crazy he went along. We headed to the store and found this tool box (that actually came with another small tool box inside that I am brain storming what to do with) for $14.97.
It didn’t come with the lock, I had to buy that separately, it was $2.47.
I then broke out my Cricut and opened up Craftroom and using my newest favorite cartridge Chalkboard Fonts and my Cricut Vinyl Sampler I cut out *The Homework Box* – I LOVE how it turned out.
Once I had the outside done I grabbed all the supplies Nate and I bought and filled this box up!
Inside we’ve got paper, pens, pencils, crayons, markers, colored pencils, tape, scissors, glue, stapler, erasers, hole punch, and SO MUCH MORE STUFF. This box is stocked and IF my plans work out it should stay this way the whole school year. I have a few little pails in there to keep the things that are loose contained, one for pencils, one for pens, one for markers, and one for scissors. The top little section came with it and it holds the erasers, glue sticks, hole punch, and stapler.
My plan is that this box will sit in my beautiful coat closet until I open it up at the table while the kids are doing their homework and then when everyone’s done it’ll get put back together and locked up until the next evening. I am also REALLY hoping this will help cut down on the coloring on my walls and the unintended haircuts…maybe?…hopefully?….
