Halloween is over and we STILL have a TON of candy left. This year my kids made out like bandits and I swear they didn’t get ANY “crappy” candy. They each got a giant bag full of the good stuff! Josh and I are meanie parents and let the kids each pick their 10 favorite candies from their bags that they don’t want to share with anyone else. We put those in ziplock bags and let them choose from those when the want a piece. All the rest goes into a big bowl for everyone to share and pick one or two pieces a day. The biggest problem is…we all kind of forget about the candy after a day or two. As I was going through the bowl yesterday I found that we had a TON of fun size candy bars. The boys had been begging for rice krispie treats for a while now and I thought…”How delicious would the treats be with some candy bar pieces inside!” Not only would it get rid of some of the candy, but it would be a little departure from the norm.
Now, I have to tell you that my husband is a rice krispie treat PUREST. He doesn’t like anything on or in his treats. I knew he might not be happy because it had candy bar pieces in it…but I gave it a shot anyway.
Candy Bar Rice Krispie Treats
Lightly Adjusted from Rice Krispies
3 tablespoons butter
1 (10oz) package of regular marshmallows or 4 cups of mini marshmallows
6 cups Rice Krispies
1 1/2 – 2 cups of candy bars, chopped
(Make sure you pick a sturdy candy bar. For this recipe I used about 8 Fun Size Snickers)
Chop your candy bars. I did them in fairly small pieces. Place candy bar pieces in a bowl and put them in the fridge until you need them.
Measure out your rice krispies into a large bowl. Over medium heat, melt your butter and your marshmallows. Make sure you stir them often so they don’t burn. Pour melted marshmallows over the rice krispies. Stir to make sure they are coated.
Next, add your candy bar pieces in about 1/3 cup at a time while you are stirring to make sure they are evenly distributed among the mixture.
Spray a 9 x 13 pan with non stick spray and gently press the mixture into the pan. We like fluffy, chewy treats, so I don’t push down hard…just lightly to spread it out in the pan.
Let cool and then slice and serve.
These were a big hit! You could still fully taste the candy bar, but it did not overpower the original taste of the treat…even Josh liked them! 🙂 Enjoy!
