Candy Cane Pancakes!

By Creative Housewives 1 Comment

The 6 year old very recently became the 7 year old and she got to have her very 1st slumber party!

Nate is pretty well known for his awesome pancakes.  I think that is why we always have such a great turnout at our slumber parties.

This party she had a couple requests.  She’s been so excited for the holidays and has been dressing in any/everything she could come up with that is “Christmas” related (in fact she couldn’t figure out why I wouldn’t let her wear a red shirt with a white shirt over it for 3 days in a row since she has 3 red long sleeve shirts and 3 white short sleeve shirts and it looks like a candy cane!).  It’s been cute.  I love that she’s embracing her December birthday.  I was doing her hair and she said “I am so glad my birthday is so close to Christmas” and so I said “why?” and she said because I get to open presents for my birthday and I don’t have to wait very long and then I get to open presents all over again”.  Her requests were Reeses Pieces, chocolate chip and of course candy cane.

So, back to the Candy Cane Pancakes!

The amount of candy cane is totally up to you and how much flavor you want.

Start with your regular pancake mix.

Next you’re going to have to crush your candy cane.  I put them in a ziploc freezer bag (they’re a bit thicker) and then to start it slap it on the counter.
1st hit you end up with a few chunks.
After a few hits you have more small pieces and a few bigger pieces still.

To take care of the bigger pieces I use the back of a spoon.

It does a pretty good job of crushing the big pieces.
Once I have them mostly crushed it’s time to dump them in the pancake mix.

Dumped in.
All mixed in.
Freshly put on the griddle.

Starting to bubble.
All flipped and about done.

Here they are, all done, a little bit pink (and girly) and they actually tasted REALLY good.

I think I told someone that they tasted good and they said “oh, I don’t like candy cane.” – SO my answer to that is that they will not make you magically like candy canes if you don’t already but if you like candy canes I bet you will very much like them!
