We love football in our family! Watching games on TV each week is a lot of fun and we have a great time cheering for our family favorites. With my son starting football this year, I thought it would be fun to host a Friday Football Party for some of his teammates and friends. They enjoy going to the high school games to support our local team when they have home games.
When hosting a fun party, you need to have all the right necessities! First I created these fun treat bags for each of the kids to fill. They were easy and inexpensive to make, and were large enough to hold some yummy snacks for the game!
To start, gather your craft paper bag, card stock, washi tape, cutouts and adhesive. Using your card stock and a paper cutter (or scissors and a ruler) cut your first color to the width of the bag and about 2 inches in height. Attach the paper strip to the bag. Cut your second color and attach it above the first color. Next I attached the washi tape (or you can use another strip of card stock in the color of your choice) at the bottom of the second color. Place your football cutout on the bag and attach the laces and stripes. Lastly, using a large, chisel tip marker write the players name and number. If you have a list of the kids’ names and numbers you can have these pre written or cut out using a paper cutting machine. For me it was easier to write the names and numbers on the bags as they arrived.
Now of course you have to have all the best treats and snacks to keep the kids going while they are cheering on their team. So I made sure to have plenty of their favorites on hand. POWERADE is perfect to help the players get a refreshing break on the sidelines, while Coke Zero and Coca-Cola help keep the party going.
We filled the table with popcorn, yogurt covered raisins, gum, chocolate candies, sugar dipping candy packs, fruit and cake packs, and licorice. You can customize your treat table for what will work best for your team. Now that you have your table set up and decorations put up (I got all these cute things at Walmart) hop over to NotSoFastMom.com to get some great ideas from Lee Corso, the host from ESPN College Game Day on how you can be a winner on and off the field!
Now you can let the kids loose on the treats and have them build their own bag!
Now we can’t send the kids off to the game without some cheering props, so we had them whip up these fun “foam fingers” out of construction paper. For each one you’ll need two 8.5″ x 11″ pieces of construction paper in your team’s colors, crayons, chalk, markers, etc, and a stapler with staples. Free hand draw the shape of a foam finger and cut out both pieces. Decorate the front and back, then staple all around the top and sides, leave the bottom open for the hand to go in. If they prefer not to wear it on their hand, you can use a paint stir stick or extra large crafting stick and staple it to the bottom of the foam finger. And now they are ready to cheer on their team!
I picked up all my crafting and decor supplies at Walmart, along with all of my treat stuff. You can also find Coke Zero, Coca-Cola, and POWERADE (Mountain Berry Blast and Fruit Punch are our favorites!) there too! Just check out the juice and soft drink aisles!
You are all set to host your own Friday Football Party, so get out there and support your athletes and favorite teams! Make sure that you check out NotSoFastMom.com for some tips on how to make the most of your game day!
