Jammin’ with my Mom. :-)

When I was younger, I remember doing LOTS of canning with my mom.  And while it was a lot of work, it was also a lot of fun!  We’d put up jars and jars of green beans, peaches, tomatoes, pears and applesauce.  We also did TONS of jam!  For some reason, when I grew up I always remember canning as hard to do.  So I never did it.  I always said “I’ll wait til mom can visit and show me how again”.  So while we were visiting in Oregon, my mom had some strawberries, raspberries and marionberries to make into jam.  I was SOOOO excited and got myself ready for a big chore.  Now when we started making it, I was completely shocked at how easy it was!  I guess in my mind I had confused “time consuming” with “hard”, because when you are making several batches…it is pretty time consuming!

Now my mom has TONS of jars for canning, and I was lucky enough that my grandma gave me tons of jars too.  But if you don’t have any, you can get them at any grocery store, Walmart, Target, etc. 🙂  You are also going to need lids and rings for your jars.

Also, I was under the impression that my mom had a super secret recipe that always made her homemade jam taste 1000 times better than everyone else’s…nope.  She lightly modified the recipe from the pectin package!!  She laughed at me pretty hard when I told her. 🙂
I’m so glad that I got to spend some great time with my mom and super excited to come home with jam too! 🙂  I can’t wait to hit the farmer’s market and get some delicious fruit to make my own jam.  I’ll be sure to let you all know how it goes! 🙂
