I’ve been wanting to make a garland for Easter to hang along my shelf for awhile now. Since I don’t have a true mantle I pretend my shelf is a mantle. As I was looking for different ideas I realized with Easter just a little less than 2 weeks away it would make more sense to make s spring garland so we could keep it up all through spring. I came up with this fun paper bird garland and I love how it turned out! It was so fun to make and it came together very quickly. Here is a tutorial for the yarn pom poms that Jenn made here so you can get an idea of how to make them.
Paper Bird Garland materials you will need:
patterned or plain colored paper
scissors
glue stick
string or twine
yarn
orange beads
black marker
yarn needle
I made a tutorial with pictures to show you each step but I will go over quickly as to what I did.
I made a tutorial with pictures to show you each step but I will go over quickly as to what I did.
- First pick out your paper you want to use. Cut the paper into 8 4-inch circles and then fold the paper in half with the pattern on the inside. Cut a little beak with orange paper.
- Take your folded paper and glue your paper on top of each other and glue your beak between the first folded papers.
- Next take your string and fold it in half and tie a knot in the middle of the string with the pieces you have hanging you will take 2 beads and tie the string around the beads to make the birds feet.
- Place your string in between about the 3 or 4th fold and make sure the knot that you tied is at the top of the bird to keep it in place. Take some glue and glue the 2 papers together and that will keep the legs in place. Next make a little black dot with your marker for your eye.
- I cut a little wing and glued it on the back and folded it back. This step is optional. They still look cute either way.
- Next I took a large yarn needle and strung my yarn pom poms onto the string and then tied my bird onto the string.
I love their cute little feet!
Cute little birdies!
I love how whimsical they look and I can’t help but smile every time I see them. They brighten up the room so much!
This paper bird garland is also a fun project to make with kids. My kids loved helping me with this garland and with kids off for spring break this is a perfect project for them to do with very little supervision since it’s basically paper and glue. I love the 3 dimensional look the birds have. For very little money you can have a really fun spring garland that will last for years to come!!
