My boys are pretty good eaters. They eat fruits and veggies without complaint and will almost always try any new dish I make. But lets be honest, they are kids so one of their favorite meals will always be chicken nuggets. ๐ They love eating our Copy Cat Chick Fil A Chicken Nuggets, so I thought I’d give some homemade chicken strips a try! It was super easy and really delicious!
Here is what you will need for this recipe…
3 large, boneless, skinless chicken breasts (for a time saver, you can buy precut “chicken strips” or ask the butcher to cut them for you)
1 cup of flour
2 1/4 cups Italian seasoned bread crumbs
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons Lawry’s Season Salt (or season salt of your choice)
1 cup of milk
2 eggs
Oil for frying
To start, slice your chicken breasts into 1/2 inch thick strips. Whisk together your eggs and milk into a shallow bowl. In a separate shallow bowl (I used a deep dish pie plate) combine flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of pepper and 1 teaspoon of season salt. In another shallow bowl combine Italian seasoned bread crumbs and 1 teaspoon of season salt.
Heat your oil on medium heat (you will want your oil to be about 1 inch deep) and dip one chicken strip in milk mixture, then dip into your flour mixture, coat well. Dip back into your milk mixture and then into your bread crumb mixture, coat well. Place into hot oil and fry on each side about 2 minutes. If your oil is too hot, the outside of your chicken strip will get very dark, very quickly and the inside will still be raw, so make sure your oil is not too hot. ๐
Repeat this with the rest of your chicken strips. In the end I had no flour mixture left and only a touch of milk mixture and bread crumb mixture left. If your chicken breasts are much larger or much smaller, you can adjust to work for the size.
Our boys LOVED these…and I’m happy to admit that Josh and I love them too! I hope you enjoy them!
