My friend brought this red and white pasta dish to our family for dinner one night and they all loved it. I asked her for the recipe and I was so surprised how easy it was. My kids don’t usually like tomatoes and most red sauces so I was happy how much they loved this! It goes great with these easy breadsticks here. This recipe is perfect to make earlier in the day when you know you are going to have a busy night and just pop it in the oven when you are ready to eat!
1 box of Penne Pasta
1 jar 26 oz. of meatless spaghetti sauce
1 16 oz. jar of Alfredo sauce (I use homemade Alfredo sauce)
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
I’ve never been a huge fan of the jar Alfredo sauce. I’ve tried all the different brands and I’ve just never found one I love. My friend told me she made her own Alfredo sauce so I tried it and we’ve never used the jar again. If you have the few extra minutes make the homemade Alfredo sauce I promise it will be worth it!
I use the four cheese Classico sauce. It’s my favorite!
Directions:
Cook and drain pasta according to the box.
In a 9 x 13 dish pour about 1/2 cup of the spaghetti sauce on the bottom of your pan. Layer the noodles, red sauce and white sauce (homemade recipe is below). I like to make a row of the white sauce then a row of the red then add the mozzarella cheese. Repeat with your remaining pasta and sauces.
On the next layer I take a fork and mix the sauces together a little bit and then added the cheese. Here it is all ready to go in the oven!
Bake at 375 for 20-30 minutes.
All done and ready to eat!
Recipe for Alfredo sauce
1/2 cup of butter
1 cup of whipping cream
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 package 8 oz. cream cheese
1/3 c. Parmesan cheese
Pepper to taste
Melt the butter in a saucepan. Once the butter is almost melted add the cream cheese. I like to cut the cream cheese into chunks it seems to melt easier. Mix together well and add the cream, Parmesan cheese, and garlic powder and pepper. Allow the mixture to boil gently until it starts to thicken up. Remove from heat and let it sit, stirring occasionally. It will thicken as it sits. Stir every few minutes.
