German Chocolate cake is one of my favorite desserts. It’s always at the top of my list for choices of birthday cake. I thought it would be fun to switch it up a bit and give these German Chocolate Brownies a try. They are much easier to put together than a three layer cake, but fill the craving perfectly!
I loved making this frosting from scratch because it was not super gooey and complimented the brownies perfectly!
German Chocolate Brownies
9 oz German’s baking chocolate, roughly chopped
1/2 cup butter
3 eggs
1 1/4 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In medium microwave safe bowl, melt chocolate and butter, in 30 second increments, stirring until smooth. Whisk in eggs, one at a time. Next add sugar, flour, baking soda and vanilla. Mix until well combined. Spread evenly into a greased 9 x 13 pan. Bake for 30-32 minutes until done. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean. Let cool.
Frosting
3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk (if you want a gooey frosting use 1/4-1/2 more)
2 egg yolks
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup sweetened shredded coconut
3/4 cup finely chopped pecans
Directions:
In sauce pan, combine milk, yolks, butter, and brown sugar. Stir constantly over medium heat for 5-8 minutes until sugar is all melted. Remove from heat, add vanilla and then mix in coconut and pecans. Let cool and spread over brownies. If you are looking to pre cut them and want them to look pretty, you can pop them in the fridge for about 30 minutes. We thought these were delicious alone, but with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, they were divine! Enjoy!
